Subject: Over-riding goals and priorities for Ms. Gilcrist as President of Yellowtail Marine, Inc.

On Wednesday, January 27, we agreed to examine the future goals of Ms. Gilcrist and prioritize her tasks as the new President of the Yellowtail Marine, Inc. The purpose of this memorandum is not only to identify the selection and prioritization of tasks, but also to provide an implementation strategy so that the primary and secondary goals are met accordingly.

With the sudden passing of Mr. Gunerson, the company faces increasing disarray, maintenance and noncompliance issues. The tasks presented to Ms. Gilcrist include the following:

• Compliance with regulation of concerns from OSHA and EPA

• Meeting with potential client in Miami

• Preparation of a preliminary strategic plan for Yellowtail Marine, Inc.

• Selection of show dates from the boat show calendar

• Attendance are funeral

• Yard maintenance issues

• Potential purchase of Saggitarius Inflatable Boats, Inc.

• Preparation of a budget statement for board’s approval

In the given timeframe, Ms. Gilcrist must make sales and compliance issues her chief goals. Both are vital to run the business. Since officials from OSHA are in the foyer, ready to tour the plant, Ms. Gilcrist should be cooperative and tour the facility with them. Before leaving for the plant tour Ms. Gilcrist must ask Sarah, her acting secretary, to cancel her trip to San Francisco and make travel arrangements to Miami. If compliance issues are raised by OSHA officials, Ms. Gilcrist should ask for advice and complete the tour. Based on the information from Yellowtail’s legal advisor, it appears that there is no immediate fix to the “clean water” regulation. Therefore Ms. Gilcrist must ask Sarah to reschedule the phone call from Mr. Tozallowzki (EPA) to a...
