Problem of office worker with frequent absenteeism - Professionals in the workplace are to adhere to a set of codes and ethics that govern how they are to act within that workplace. A worker who wishes to constantly withdraw him/herself from the work place without the properly accrued leave should be guided by the ethics of the workplace. Ethics in the work place ideally determine how frequently a worker would ask for leave in consideration of those around them and the flow of work that it would be disrupting. The issue, excessive absenteeism, should be addressed with the seriousness it deserves because it would lead to serious outcomes such as bottlenecks in the workflow. A worker who is often taking excessive leave in comparison to his co-workers both demoralizes them and causes turmoil through the group or team environment. This worker constantly being absent can cause people to begin to gossip which in and of itself is another ethical issue that is created by the excessive leave, ethics in the workplace are put into place to negate issues such as this. The following paragraphs shall evaluate and resolve the case study of absenteeism and establish whether the worker was right or wrong to frequently ask for days off above their allotted leave. According to the professional code of ethics, absenteeism affects the morale of other workers either directly or indirectly and also lowers productivity overall for the group. The office workers absenteeism automatically frustrates his fellow workers who need to perform extra duties just to cover his workload. Moreover, this can also create frustration for the worker himself because when he does in fact return his own workload will increase until he is caught up if ever.
