The organization that I work with has comprehensive policies, philosophy and definitions for supervisors regarding diversity awareness. The organization requires all supervisors to complete a one-day Diversity and Inclusion workshop. This workshop and training session is designed for supervisors so that they can create a personal action plan to broaden skills and reap the benefits of diversity and inclusion.

The organization’s philosophy of diversity is based on the hypothesis that diversity contributes to performance, service and the lives of its employees and customers. The goal of diversity training is to promote an inclusive environment where everyone respects individuals and values of different people with different background, race, gender, age and ethnicity. The organization that I work for has strategically designed this diversity awareness workshop because it wants to establish an image of an inclusive organization and become a role model and champion for diversity. The greater emphasis of this training revolves around supervisors and managers because they are expected to lead by example and demonstrate a genuine commitment to workplace diversity. Managers and supervisors are expected to learn about people they work with and get to know their skills, knowledge and background. This will help them identify and address barriers to diversity.

In short, the workshop is designed to create awareness so that managers and supervisors can appreciate the differences in ideas, behaviors and practices by transforming exclusion into inclusion.

The organization that I work for has a sound diversity awareness program in place for training supervisors and managers. The workshop includes several exercises and engages the attendees to share their experience and ask questions.
