My six strengths of the Career Competencies are taking initiative, researching, innovation, adapting to change, applying expertise, and logical thinking. These skills can be effective when working in groups. When working in groups, taking initiative is key when the team has a lack of leadership, meaning if I use this talent properly, my groups will never be without someone willing to step out on a lead and get the group focused. I have done this in the past week at my place of employment, by designing a new system of processing checks to increase efficiency for the entire team. Researching is great when the groups are having difficulties or have a lack of information to complete a task or meet a goal. There have been several time as an accountant, I have had to research forms, and study current governmental laws to be sure the organization I represented stayed within the rules. By having an ability to adapt to change, when an issue arises and a new direction has to be taken, I can easily adjust, and go about completing the original task in a new direction or changing task altogether. I worked at a company that merged and the team seemed to worry, I was the only person on the team who didn’t worry about the change, and I welcomed the idea of have more ideas since the group doubled in size. Applying my expertise always helps me out as an accountant, especially since there is usually no other accountants available on the teams I represent, my teams relies on my experience and knowledge. And most of all logical thinking has gotten me out of many difficult situations. While reconciling accounts there are usually small adjustment or differences and recalling processing can help sort out issues.
