Course Syllabus

Course Title: CC2 - Clinical Chemistry 2

Course Description: Clinical Chemistry 2 will provide an advanced knowledge of the metabolism and function of hormones and includes: the laboratory investigation of disorders of thyroid, pituitary, adrenal, hypothalamic, ovarian, testicular and renal hormones; and the use of tumour markers in oncology. Also included are iron status, protein abnormalities, therapeutic drug monitoring and drugs of abuse testing and the genetic basis of disease. Its laboratory counterpart prepares a Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Science Student to familiarize the method and procedure of test and machineries of the laboratory as a tool in aiding the diagnosis of such diseases and preparing them to be professional laboratory personnel in the career of medical technology. It also focusses on the familiarization of the normal, critical and significant values of the specific constituent being tested to report. It also talks about the pre and post activities of the patient and the Laboratory Quality Controls and the equivalent Laboratory Quality Assurance.
