Roles of Women in the Society

The changing role of women in the society has significantly affected their contribution in various aspects of human life such as family, religion, politics, government and business. Traditionally, their roles were always inferior to that of men in all structures and organs of the society, but this has significantly changed with the current insistence on gender equality and respect for human rights. This essay discusses the role of women in various aspects of the society such as religion, politics, family and leadership and how they should be educated.

In the traditional family set-up, the primarily role of women included conducting of household chores such caring for children, livestock, tending for family gardens, as well as cleaning. On the other hand, men acted as breadwinners and family heads. However, the current family roles for women have changed, with the dual-earner family concept enhancing equality in role play between men and women (Hubert & Stratigaki 172). More than ever before, more women, even those with very young children, work outside home for pay with most of them working full time. Religion has also responded to these changes, with new professional roles such as ordained pastors and synagogue leaders being preserved for women. A number of theological issues have also been changed, including the inclusion of women in the religious history and aspects of sexual equality and justice. However, equality in religious leadership is largely insignificant. Nevertheless, their lobbying for equality is being ignored.
