“Google Seeks Automotive Partners for Self-Driving Car”

According to Wall Street Journal, Google Inc. executive, Mr. Lewandowski, visited the Detroit Society of Automotive Engineers conference to discuss possible partnerships for their self-driving car technology on Wednesday. Mr. Lewandowski believes that it is possible to brought this product to market soon: “a system could be ready much sooner than the next decade. If not shame on us engineers.” To make the self-driving car popular, Google Inc. will have to convince the general public that the vehicle is safe.

Judging from what Lewandowski said self-driving cars are still millions of test miles away from the actual sale.

Moreover, Google are willing to explore different possibilities to promote other Google services such as aftermarket installations or even potentially giving away the technology. Automakers are already offering autonomous driving functions in some vehicles, but Google has a lot of “significant resources” such as bright management and mapping system. Mr. Lewandowski says that “Google Inc. is going to stand behind the software” and continue to test the self-driving system. They still have problems with their hardware, including the reliability of the sensors to detect objects around the car.

In my opinion, it is really great idea to invent self-driving cars. The main reason is that computer-controlled cars drive more safely than human being, because texting, talking on the phone, or becoming sleepy usually distract people. Moreover, I believe this technology would be advantageous for blind people. Personally, I see the opportunities for this technology being positive.
