1. Executive Summary
In April of 2013, the Community Services Center of the University of Calgary’s Division of Applied Psychology department embarked on a year-long strategic planning process. The mandate of this planning was to research unmet community needs with a view to either providing and/or advocating for services to fill any gaps. As part of this research, services to “Adults with FASD” were researched by completing both informational interviews and literature reviews. The findings from this undertaking were particularly significant with regards to “Affected Adults.” In both Calgary and Edmonton, there were major limitations to the services that dealt specifically with Adults with FASD. The most notable limitation was the lack of employment related services for this target population.
Both cities have active advocacy groups working with this population. They report that much of the funding to work with adults has originated with the Children’s Ministry.1 The services have been mandated to protect the welfare of the...
