The Future of Energy: Guiding decisions with evidence

Earth is a fragile miracle! Life itself is perhaps an act of delicate balance between energy and matter and human civilization is all but an expression of the available energy source and its utilization by life. According to Lambert, et al., (2014),the historical perspective of human cultural evolution owes its progress to the development of energy resources and evolution of energy conversion technologies and the most important factor in determining the long term survival of the human society and civilization is the availability of net energy (Hall and Kiltgaard, 2012).

The quality of life as well as the global socioeconomic condition depends on the energy return on investment or EROI having a proportionality relationship with the amount of surplus energy in the system. This energy can be channelized into welfare and developmental activities (Murphy et al, 2011) .Technology plays an important role and in comparison to the use of non renewable fossil fuels, there has been extensive benefit due to the implementation of better technologies and higher energy efficiency (World Bank, 2013).Alteration of the traditional energy sources and trimming the energy needs according to necessity and seasonal alterations can provide substantial benefits along with possibilities of reduced pollution global detrimental effects and promise of future security

Thus in order to obtain a sustainable survival of human civilization along with the global biodiversity and ecology, it is essential to shift the energy requirements to renewable sources and utilize it according to the alterations in the climate, location as well as energy requirements to attain energy security.

Sources and nature of the types of energy used

All the different types of energy those are available to man for use can be grouped into two types, (“Types of renewable energy”, 2014)
