Project 2: Physical Assessments

Complete all of the following assessments. You must answer all questions fully to receive points. Only ONE file per assignment.

1) Resting Heart Rate

Take your resting heart rate before even getting out of bed in the morning by using your carotid or your radial pulse (refer to book) for 60 seconds. Include an average of three trials on three different days, for resting heart rate. Do not forget to include your units (bpm). Include your resting heart rate for each of the three days and the average. Is yours within the normal range? Too low, too high?

Thursday morning my resting heart rate was 80 bpm. The next two days my resting heart rate in the morning was on Friday 76 bpm and on Saturday 84 bpm. My Average from Thursday through Saturday was 80 bpm, which is within normal resting heart rates.

2) BMI and Waist to Hip Ratio (WHR)

Determine your body mass index, include your rating. Is this within normal? Discuss how BMI can tell you the risk of disease? Please list diseases, do not just say 'disease' or 'health problems'.

My body mass index rating is 23, which is within normal range. BMI numbers explain which ratings are in risk of disease such as ratings over 30 is defined as obesity which can cause type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease.

Calculate your waist and your hip measurements and then calculate your waist to hip ratio found in lab 6.1, pages 181-182. You must list your results, ratings and conclusions. What is considered too high? Where do your numbers fall? What does the waist to hip ration measurements tell you about the risk of disease? Please list diseases, not just say 'disease' or 'health problems'.

My waist measurement is 24 inches and my hip measurement is 32 inches. In result my waist to hip ratio is 0.75, which appears to be within healthy range. My conclusion is my body is “pear-shaped” which is healthier because I do not carry as much weight around the abdomen as...
