PA II- Creativity vs. Innovation

I have chosen to base my writhing on the scientific paper Creativity is not enough which is an article from Harvard Business Review that Theodore Levitt wrote for 50 years ago in 1963.

Levitt claim that creativity is great thing, but that the companies should not pay too much attention to the creative types, because they might be harmful to the company. I think that Levitt is a little harsh on the creative people.

I think this article was very interesting because of his reserved excitement for the creative people. Today is everybody so thrilled about the creativity and think that it’s the providing force for innovation and competition. Levitt mention in his article creativity is not enough “Many people who are full of ideas simply do not understand how an organization must operate in order to get things done”. By this he mean that many creative people are irresponsible, they come up with a lot of idea, but they do not take the responsibility to implement them. Doing the article he is pretty harsh on the creative types and their creative ideas, and the reason why he is that, he says “organizations tend to be inhospitable to creativity and innovation“. I think he is right about that because many organizations wouldn’t change, but they also want to be efficient so they can make money.

Levitt claim that a company/organization shouldn’t let to many ideas in because he think that one of the purposes of the organization is to hostile against a huge and constant flow of ideas and creativity.

Levitt wrote this article for 50 years ago, so today in our time where innovation and outsourcing of tasks is well used by the companies around the world. Today many think that the purpose of the organization is to be open for the new ideas and inputs the company gets. The globalization and the internet have made it easy for the companies to get access to information and the globalization connects the different cultures which make it easy...
