The Titanic

The Titanic was one of the largest most popular ships in history. The Titanic set sail over 100 years ago. The richest and most successful people were aboard the Titanic and they were blessed with some of the greatest commodities along the ride. The enormous hype of this spectacular journey to America only contributed to an even more harrowing devastation when this cruise liner sank on April 15, 1912 (Lane). The sinking of the ship caused 1517 deaths out of a total of 2320 passengers. The sinking of the Titanic was known as one of the greatest tragedies around the world and is still known as the worst peacetime disasters in history. The Titanic is a hard story to listen to because of all the deaths of many innocent passengers and crewmembers. All the deaths could have been prevented if it wasn’t for a few mindless mistakes. The heartbreak that came from the sinking of the Titanic caused many changes to be made around the world to prevent an enormous tragedy like this from happening again. The world would never be the same after this incident. Although many bad things occurred because of the sinking, many positive changes occurred as well.

The Titanic began construction on March 31, 1909 in Ireland, and was completed and ready for launch towards the end of the year 1911. The Titanic was built with two other cruise liners, Olympia and Britannica, which were built for comfort. These ships were made to accommodate many of the United States’ wealthiest citizens. Many of the rooms on board were made for first-class passengers and included many luxuries like a swimming pool and gym. These many accommodations were designed for the comfort of the passengers and crew, but the overall design of the ship was flawed.

Although many people know that the Titanic sunk because of an iceberg, many do not understand what caused the ship to sink. When the Titanic was found in 1985 on the ocean floor, engineers and scientists began to conduct many tests on the ship...
