Factors Affecting Motivation of Students in

De La Salle Lipa

I. Overview

This research shows the different factors that affect the motivation of the students of De La Salle Lipa in their field of studies.It shows on how the students handle the different situations in studying and their performances in school. This reserch may lead for the realization of the students on how they perform in school and how they improve their studies.

This study aims:

* To know the attitude and perspective of the students towards studying

* To diffferentiate the level of the students’motivation towards studying

* To enumerate the things that influence the attitude of the students

II. Framework

Ford's Motivational Systems Theory

Martin Ford (1992) has developed a theory of motivation, called Motivational Systems Theory, which he hopes to integrate and explain three questions that considered to be the essence of motivation: 

1. Where are people going? What are they trying to do? (Direction)

2. How or why people get turned on or off? (Energization)

3. How or why people decide to try something, stick with it, or give up? (Regulation)

Definition of motivation: 

Motivation is defined as the organized patterning of three psychological functions that serve to direct, energize, and regulate goal directed activity: personal goals, emotional arousal processes, and personal agency beliefs. (p. 3) Motivation and Effective Functioning (Achievement & Competence) What is the relationship between effective functioning, or competency, and motivation?

Ford proposes four prerequisites to effective functioning: motivation, skill, necessary biological structure and functioning, and a responsive environment. Thus, "Effective functioning requires a motivated, skillful person whose biological and behavioral capabilities support relevant interactions with an environment that has the informational and material properties and resources needed to facilitate, or at least...
