Wal-Mart and Its Culture

What is Culture?

Culture is the quality in a person or society that arises from a concern for what is regarded as excellent in arts, letters, manners, scholarly pursuits. However some people would argue and say that culture is development or improvement of the mind by education or training. Today I will be speaking about the Culture of Wal-Mart. I plan to examine Wal-Mart and the behaviors and beliefs and characteristic which makes of the brand. I will breakdown the nine rules Wal-Mart has set in place to makeup there culture. The seven culture rules are Grass Roots Process, 3 Basic Beliefs & Values, 10 foot rule, open door, Servant Leadership, Teamwork, and Wal-Mart Cheer.

Mr. Sam Walton Values

Mr. Sam Walton was born to Thomas Gibson Walton and Nancy Lee in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. Sam Walton lived with his parents on their farm. Mr. Sam Walton took over management of his first variety store at the age of 26. With the help of a $20,000 loan from his father-in-law, plus $5,000 he had saved from his time in the Army, Walton purchased a Ben Franklin variety store in Newport, Arkansas. Mr. Walton sales volume grew from $80,000 to $225,000 in three years. No matter how Mr. Walton sales grew he still believed in low prices and great value. Mr. Sam builted Wal-Mart around the world as the company that helps our customers save money so they can live better. Wal-Mart is also well known for their unique corporate culture. Sam Walton built his business on values and morals. Those rules and customs have helped them become one of the world’s most admired companies.

Grass Roots Process

The first rule of Wal-Mart culture I am going to discusses is The Grass Root Process. Sam Walton believed that you should listen to your associates because they have the best ideas. When Mr. Sam was living he believed in traveling continuously so he could visit all of his stores at least once a year, listening to associates and asking for their ideas....
