9.1 Introduction

Research is a term stand for “Systematic investigation towards increasing the sum of knowledge”.

Research Methodologies are the methods involved in gathering meaningful data.

The data has been collected from various sources can be categorized into two main fields mainly:-

1). Primary Data

2). Secondary Data

Primary Data

Data that is collected for the specific purpose at hand is called Primary Data. It is the type of data which holds highest rank or importance. Primary Data is the collection of data which is gathered form precise sources and are accurately maintained. It calls for greater planning and coordination. In situations where it is impossible to use the secondary data keeping in view the requirements of the study or in case where there is no secondary data available, the only way out is to collect primary data.

Secondary Data

Secondary data may be defined as data that has been collected earlier for some purpose other than the purpose of the present study. Any data that is available prior to the commencement of the research project is secondary data, and therefore secondary data is also called as historical data. Secondary sources of data provide a wealth of information to the researcher. It thus provides rich insights into the research process.

Primary data

Secondary data
