Education in Puerto Rico

Title: ¨9 de cada 10 escuelas en Puerto Rico no dan el grado¨

Puerto Rico currently has about 1,500 public schools located throughout the country. It is a requirement of every school to maintain an environment of peace, security and provide an excellent education for the training of future professionals in Puerto Rico. To assess the academic achievement of schools the ¨Pruebas Puertorriqueñas de Aprovechamiento Académico¨ were designed to test students on various academic degrees in the fields of spanish, english, math, science and history. These tests are consistent with the content standards of excellence established in 2000 by the Department of Education of Puerto Rico and meet the requirements of No Child Left Behind Act (DE, ND).

In 2012, the website of the Department of Education of Puerto Rico presented a very difficult outlook for Puerto Rican education. The 91% of the country's public schools do not give the requirements to be a satisfactory system. This implies a failure in the educational system of this country that implies principals, teachers, students and parents. The Department of Education of Puerto Rico must change strategies. Some ideas are: make this an individualized test and that test become a requirement for the admission of students to universities in Puerto Rico or the United States.

On the other hand, the result of this examination reveals a lack of commitment of the education system, students and teachers. Also, this story tells us that it has decreased the number of students enrolled in schools. This implies that dropouts in Puerto Rico have increased considerably. What is the future of this country? It's supposed that the children and young people in the future be productive to lift up the economy of this country. We are also in the list of the three worst educational systems in the United States. The education system needs radical changes...
