Residence to Change
Change is an everyday occurrence sometimes change can absorb and over take a person
or organization several times a day. Change is inevitable no matter how or when it occurs thus;
it is human nature to resist change, especially when it occurs often times at the most unusual,
inconvenient, or unwanted period of a situation.
Causes of Organizational Resistance to Change
Organizational changes that result in resistance most often in an organization starts out
with poor communications which the decisions makers do not pass on the details of the changes
to team members or employees. The changes may go into effect before allowing team members
and employee's the opportunity to ask the questions and to voice any complaints before the
changes are implemented. At this point the details of the change is then skewed, inaccurate, and
second-hand information. Self-interest of those who may have another personal agenda, who
want to maintain their status quo in advancement for themselves, and who do not care about the
well-being and greater good of the organization resist change. There are those in an organization
who will feel excluded if they were not given the opportunity to give their opinions or input.
Trust goes a long way in an organization, whenever an employee feels as though he or she can
no longer trust key decision makers and eventually not trust each other than the changes become
a negative underlying reason. The change from old technology to new technology can be
intimidating to employee's who has invested time in an organization. Some are not willing or
may feel they cannot adapt to new technological changes that will cause resistance. Training is
the recourse for such resistance even though once again there will be those who will resist.
