One of the two soccer balls used in the first 1930 World Cup final between Argentina and Uruguay is shown above. This leather football was used in the final match and taken by an Uruguayan team player. It may have even played a part in the outcome of the first world cup in 1930.  Argentina and Uruguay could  not agree on which ball to use.  So they decided to use an Argentinean ball the first half and a ball supplied by Uruguay the second half.  As it turned out, Argentina was ahead at halftime 2-1.  However; Uruguay came back to win the match in the second half 4-2 using their ball! At the first world cup they used leather balls some sources have said that the inside of the ball was made of a pigs bladder and was used because they where bouncy. This ball was not replaced until three world cups has passed then they replaced it with a rubber interior and kept the leather exterior. In the 1970s they gave the opportunity to Adidas to make all the world cup footballs. So for the next 3 world cups they made the Telstar. They made the ball so you an see it on a black and white Tv so that is why the panels were black and white. The 1978 match ball included 20 panels with triads that created optical impression of 12 identical circles. For the next 6 world cups they made the same ball but with different design until 2002 the china world cup. then i was the biggest development in footballs. They made more layers so the ball would have better accuracy in the air. It had a foam layer so it could have more a precise flight. Then the germany world cup they reduced the amount of panels so it was more smooth and could improve accuracy and control. Then in south africa they tried to make the most circular ball yet so that is could travel through the air more easily. Also changed the grip so it could travel smoother as well.
