“I have a dream….”- Martin Luther King Jr.
“I have a dream….” is a speech delivered by on 28th August 1963 at steps of
Lincoln memorial at Washington. The speech is delivered to around 2,50,000 civil right
supporter during march to Washington for end of racism in United States of America.
The purpose of the speech is to inspire change in both side white and black citizen of
United States of America during civil era. This speech established him as a one of the
best orator in american history.
Background of speaker
Martin Luther King Jr. spent his
life protesting the unfair treatment of
African American in united states of
America. He used peaceful marches and
powerful speeches to make American
recognize the treatment of people
differently because of their colour was
wrong. He was leader of African American
civil right movement. He is best known
for his role in advancement of civil right
using nonviolence and civil disobediences.
The civil right movement was the struggle
to get law and attitude changed so that
black American could have equal to those
white American.
On October 14, 1964, Martin
received the Nobel Peace Prize for
combating racial inequality through
nonviolence.
Major Issues & Argument
Martin throughout his speech stressed upon core issue of equality to African American.
He argues that all men and women are equal and should be treated equal. Many times in
his speech, martin states that how black citizen have been mistreated over the years [one
hundred years.. 2nd paragraph].
He supported his arguments by historical document. The first document he
motioned is Emancipation Declaration [2nd paragraph]. Emancipation Declaration was
executive order signed by president Lincoln freeing the slaves in united states of
America. His selection of place for delivery of speech itself adds importance to the
