LETTER TO THE EDITOR ON CYBER BULLYING

I’m writing in response to Jan Hoffman of the New York Times article on “How Should

Schools Handle Cyber Bullying.” This article is about the ongoing problem around our nations

schools that affects the daily’s lives of our youth which can eventually lead to suicide. Cyber

bullying can be defined as any communication posted or sent by a minor online, by instant

messenger, e-mail, website, diary site, online profile, interactive game, handheld device, cell

phone or other interactive device that is intended to frighten, embarrass, harass or otherwise

target another minor. Even though America needs to take affirmative action in the prevention of

cyber bullying and not ignore that fact that is a strong contributor to teenage suicide rates. , Its

wrong and its need to be stopped because its crippling our youth, causing the parents to spend

unnecessary money due to legal issues, plus there are plenty of ways to put a stop to it.

Cyber bullying a fastest growing trend in bullying among teens and probably the most

dangerous. It gives anonymity to those who don’t want people to actually see them bullying in

school. Also, cyber bullying takes away the last sanctuary some of these kids have, their home.

What an awful feeling that must be, to come home from a day of being picked on just to be

picked on more via internet. Cyber bullying is more detrimental than traditional bullying because

children today are using electronics younger and younger, cyber bullying covertly follows

children from school to home, and it can cause many people to have psychological problems or

commit suicide. Cyber bullies may not realize the consequences for themselves of cyberbullying.
