Diversity

It is evident that an organization’s corporate culture aids in its prosperity over time. Corporate culture is the “system of shared actions, values, and beliefs that develops within an organization and guides the behavior of its members” (Schermerhorn, Hunt, & Osborn, 2008). Therefore, cultural differences can have a significant impact on the quality of work life experienced by members and productivity. Taylor Cox multicultural organization model helps organizations identify how to establish unity and coherent business practices. The five-step program describes methods to increase knowledge and communication; how to integrate the business structure to eliminate subcultures, increasing participation among members, ensure that group identities are cohesive with the organizations identity and values, and the elimination of interpersonal conflicts. Various variables affect individual behavior including ethnicity, sexual orientation, geographical differences, skills and abilities, and personality traits. All of these qualities along with many others create diversity in the workplace. It is the responsibility of management to maintain functionality and productivity by motivating individuals to see past their differences and work together to attain a common goal.

Ethnicity

Ethnic groups can be united by shared cultural, behavioral, linguistic and ritualistic, or religious traits. Ethnicity stands for people who have similar origin, culture, and group and can also be referred to as cultural practice by having the same holidays, language, food religion, and upbringing.
