The Big Charade

There are two different genres this movie makes a comical reference to, the big one being that of your typical action/thriller movie. Just a boy and his father live together when one day, the fathers past catches up to him and he is killed and the boy grows up looking to find the man responsible for his father’s death and get his revenge. The other movie genre this mock trailer references was a little bit harder for me to pick out, but if i had to guess i would say that of a Mystery genre movie. Because this kid sets out on a bath of revenge with the mystery to find out who killed his father.

There are two films this trailer makes me think of when i see it, Batman and 21 and here is why. At the beginning of this trailer a kid watches his father die and sets out on a path to avenge his father’s death, where as in the batman movie Bruce Wayne watches his parents die in front of him and sets out on a path to avenge his parents by fixing the corruption that has overtaken his city. Now as for the second movie, in 21 a college kid is grouped up with 3 other intelligent peers after their professor realizes their ability to count cards, and uses them to rob casinos of their money. In this mock movie trailer this guy is acknowledged for his skills and is grouped up with 3 random strangers to make him a better charade player.

I think the film maker achieves a sense of defining what makes certain movies fall into a certain genre category, by taking the generic setting of some genres and throwing them together.
