Innovation, Design, and Creativity
In order to compare and contrast innovation, design, and creativity, one must first define what each is. Innovation can be defined as the act of developing an idea into a physical form such as a new product or service. These products or services are usually developed in order to find a solution to an existing problem. Creativity is a key part of any successful innovation.
Creativity can be defined as the act of developing an idea in a different, outside-of-the-box way. It is a culmination of bits of knowledge acquired over the years, refined, and applied to produce new ideas. Creativity cannot be forced – it relies on individual motivation and inspiration. Creative people have the ability to produce new and innovative ideas without the help of others. These types of individuals tend to have a high level of ability to be sensitive, intuitive, imaginative, energetic, original, and observational.
Design can be described as the tangible outcome of a conscious decision-making process by which an idea is transformed into a product. It is the comparison of alternatives to pick the best possible solution for the task or problem at hand. Due to the fact that they are very closely related – innovation, creativity, and design work together to form some of the best ideas and products that are offered in today’s society.
Innovation, creativity, and design are also extremely important in meeting organizational objectives. They help companies to produce new products that keep their customers interested in what they are doing. Interest generally translates into more revenue for the each company. With such a high need for consistently new ideas or products that are not currently on the market, organizations hire specific people in order to achieve the highest notoriety out of all of their competitors.
