Design Trade-Off Approach

While merchandise is being designed, the different needs for cost, scheduling, and performance will call for trade-offs between these features. If the timeline is strict then some areas will need to be adjusted to keep the schedule, as long as customers will still be satisfied. These trade-offs will have consequences that need to be considered in the course of the design process. The cost of the product is determined by the customer. If the cost is limited, a designer might not be able to hire the staff that they would like for a assignment like this one, or buy the equipment that they would preferably want. A cost limitation means that a designer must make decisions about cutbacks, and the right places for a cutback to occur. Software and network issues are the main concerns. If the development phase includes trade-offs, the product might not take all of the desired functionality with it into its initial market release. Trade-offs on the networking side need to be sure that the bare minimum requirements are still met, regardless of the sacrifices, so that if the company were to expand at all, they would still is able to upgrade their equipment. A time limit might be a factor in software development. If a designer tries to incorporate every possible piece of functionality, then the solution that they develop might not actually be of high quality. If the software development is rushed, bugs or other issues could hurt its performance, making it a bad experience for users. Performance issues might also occur if there is not enough time spent testing to see how the functionality plays out on the network. If the software is not tested properly, date synchronization might not happen often or well enough. Since this is the case, a person should plan to buy the hardware necessary for a possible five years of growth, according to Kudler's estimations. Since the cost of hardware is predetermined, it is possible to determine ahead of time which...
