To Change or Not to Change: A look into the World of Plastic Surgery
“Ugly is irrelevant, It is an immeasurable insult to a woman, and then supposedly the
worst crime you can commit as a woman. But ugly, as beautiful, is an illusion”. (Cho,
2004). This quote by Cho is so true, who decides who is beautiful and who is not. So
many people, women especially, compare themselves and other women by what the
models in the magazines look like. Is that reality? Most of the cover girls are airbrushed
somehow or other. So isn’t that the illusion of perfection or beauty? The person who feels
they need plastic surgery to be transformed into a god or a goddess, should be advised
that having a facelift done will not make them breathtaking, however it can help reduce
the amount of wrinkles. When someone wants to look better so their spouse will be
faithful, it is important for them to realize that even a brilliant surgeon, with a scalpel,
cannot fix a failing marriage. A closer look needs to be taken at the many reasons people
choose to have plastic surgery, especially when the risks of looking worse or even death
may be possible.
When a person is not happy with their life, they may choose to have plastic surgery to
make it better, but if they are broken on the inside, making the outside more attractive,
will not fix anything. It may help their self esteem increase a little, however, it is not
going to fix the real problem. They will need to see a true a qualified therapist to
overcome their internal issues. There are a couple of different types of clients who
especially need to be counseled as to their expectations before the surgery is scheduled.
