Trendy Children’s Wear

When looking at a normal distribution, based on our data, our mean for demand in units during both summer and winter seasonal 4 year periods was 42,349 units.

2 months were two standard deviations to the left of our mean, ranging from 19,300 to 27,300 units.

5 months of our average was within one standard deviation to the left of the mean ranging from 29,800 to 39,600 units.

2 of the months were within one standard deviation to the right of the mean, ranging from 47,300 to 56,600 units.

3 months which were the months when the demand on the units was the highest was 2 standard deviations from the mean, ranging from 57,700 to 64,300 units.

Based on this data, during the summer seasonal time frame, Trendy Children’s Wear would need to ensure we had enough more product on the shelves during April to August each year. The average units on demand, for these months was 57,000 units. Therefore, we would need to make our buyers and distributors aware that during those months, we need to have enough merchandise on the sales floor to meet the demand, putting and emphasis on shorts, t-shirts, sandals etc…

Based on this data, during the winter seasonal time frame, Trendy Children’s Wear would need to ensure we need a surplus of product on our shelves beginning in October and going til February with the highest month being November with 64,300 units on demand. We attribute this to lower temperatures as well as the holiday season soon approaching. We will be sure our buyers stock up on jeans, jackets and sweatshirts as those will be in high demand during that time of year.

Using normal distribution this way can help Trendy Children’s Wear ensure they have enough of the right product on the shelves to meet consumer demand and keep a profits high. Understanding supply and demand will ensure that demand on Trendy’s will continue to be a success.
