The Rules

This task is a timed event that you must work as individuals. You are required to remain within the library so we may asses your progress. You will be able to utilise any facility to complete your project. You will be assessed on your business plan and your pitch. You must be ready to pitch your ideas and report back to the meeting room at 2:00 pm. Your pitch must be no longer than 10 minutes. The task is illustrated below. We will be monitoring your progress in set intervals but largely you will be free to work independently. However, if you do require any assistance we will be in the briefing room.

The Task

The tablet and the phone are fast becoming the same device, and we for one can’t wait. Bigger phones have been a big trend over the last couple of years, and despite a somewhat mocking moniker, the “phablet” (phone plus tablet) is here to stay. Many experts predict that within a few years, seven- and eight-inch tablets, like the iPad mini and Google Nexus 7, will begin to disappear, replaced by phones that are nearly equal in size.

We are giving you the opportunity to express your most creative ideas in product branding, marketing and targeting. Imagine that you have a new product (a phablet) with the following specifications:

* Processor: quad-core 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800

* Memory/Storage: 2 GB of RAM; 16 GB internal storage

* Display: 6.8-inch Full HD multi-touch with 1,920X1,080 pixels

* Camera: 13 MP back with 1080p video recording and panoramic, fast-burst and cymera modes

* Audio: stereo front speakers, 5.1 Dolby virtual surround and three noise-canceling microphones

* Connectivity: 4G, WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC

* Operating system: Android 4.4 KitKat.
