What is teamwork?

Teamwork is work performed by a team and it is the co-operative effort by a group of people to achieve a common goal.

Why is teamwork important?

Teamwork creates synergy where the sum is greater than the parts.

It supports a more empowered way of working, removing constraints which may prevent someone doing their job properly;

It also promotes flatter and leaner structures, with less hierarchy;

Teamwork Encourages multi-disciplinary work where teams cut across organizational divides and it also Fosters flexibility and responsiveness, especially the ability to respond to change;

At certain instance teamwork impresses customers who like working with good teams (sometimes the customer may be part of the team);

It also promotes the sense of achievement, equity and camaraderie, essential for a motivated workplace;

When managed properly, teamwork is a better way to work!

To function successfully in a small group, team members need to be

able to communicate clearly on intellectual and emotional

levels. Effective communication is beneficial in various aspects:

With good communication skill, members can explain their own ideas clearly and Express their feelings in an open but non-threatening way

Communication skill also enables members to Listen carefully to others and Ask questions to clarify others’ ideas and emotions

The skill also help members to sense how others feel based on their nonverbal communication.

Effective communication will initiate conversations about group climate or process if members sense tensions brewing.

The skill also helps members to Reflect on the activities and interactions of their group and encourages other group members to do so as well.
