THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

With high demands for quality education increases, it is also essential that students learn from their teachers and professors in their allocated time. Checking student attendance became a tradition, but it halts for a minute or a few more the learning process of the students.

The aim of the project is to develop a Barcode Student ID System for the students of Informatics College Bicutan Corporation to reduce the time consumed by the teacher by checking the class attendance.

This document presents the design for the barcode scanner and how will it be used by the students of Informatics College Bicutan Corporation.

Background of the Study

Informatics College Bicutan Corporation

Informatics College Bicutan Corporation (formerly Informatics Computer Institute - Bicutan) is a franchise branch of Informatics Philippines providing quality training and education in the field of Information and Communications Technology.

Established in 1994, Informatics Philippines has 38 centers nationwide, providing courses and Corporate Productivity, Business Solutions, and Higher Education from undergraduate to postgraduate degree completions.

Barcode Scanner

The barcode scanner is an electronic device that scans a barcode by shining a laser beam on it. Barcode readers (unlike magnetic-stripe readers) are “non-contact” automatic data capture devices, operating only at short distances (a few inches).

Statement of the Problem

The proponents find the following problems to be solved by their proposed project:

1. The lecturers are not able to monitor if the students wear / bring their school IDs;

2. The lecturers consume about five (5) to ten (10) minutes only to check their students’ attendance;

3. The lecturers need to ask their students of case of absenteeism.
