Wise Choices Assignment Chapter One

Instructor: Tom Gordon

Term: Fall ‘13

In ancient Egypt the Pharaohs were at the top of the social hierarchy, while the slaves were at the bottom. His conflict shaped the history and lifestyles of all Egyptian people. The motive of the slaves was to free ad be treated equally. The Pharaohs were to be successful like their ancestors, and carry on traditions. This enabled them to sit in their temples, while the slaves built their burial tombs. Among the Pharaohs were leaders though despised by the slaves, must allow said traditions to persist.

In 10,000 B.C.E hereditary traditions were at the up most importance. In order to uphold these traditions the Pharaohs had to make sure the people of Egypt were abiding by their rules and keeping up the pace workload. By creating the incentive of freedom, the slaves were able to accomplish their goals while achieving the needs of the Pharaohs. Among these goals was not only freedom, but protection of the slave’s families. In observance, of the Pharaohs needs, the slaves were not eating full meals causing their strength to weaken every day. On top of this they were being whipped, tortured and beaten. The Pharaohs thought they were creating a symbiotic relationship by performing these misdeeds but in all reality they were hindering the effectiveness of the slaves.

Due to the intense circumstances of the slaves, they had to look after each other and use sovereign teamwork. Even with these measures, some slaves never achieved freedom; the slaves who did, were an example to all. Such results allowed the Pharaohs, with extreme supremacy, to whip slaves and make assembly lines. This gave the Pharaohs all the riches they desired until they were buried, ironically in their tombs in which the slaves built.
