Enterprise systems are application software on a large-scale that allows a business to operate in an efficient manner. These operations are often in control of information and data that when partnered with real time updates can help an organization become very efficient. In an organization enterprise systems can help bring many different parts of the business together to help the business function as a single unit for instance, the finance department of a business would be able to communicate with the sales/marketing staff, human resources and the production department. This would be very helpful for a company because it keeps everyone on the same page. At my work, we have an enterprise system that makes day to day operations go smoothly. When patients call in with a script for a product the customer service personnel (CSR) will look the product up in are computer system and this will tell the CSR if we have this product in stock. If we do she can receive it so that it can't be sold to anyone else if the product is not in stock she can order the product with a few clicks of a mouse. This information gets sent automatically to the billing department.

By implementing and use enterprise systems a company can achieve operational excellence. This being said there are a few factors that should be considered when creating and choosing an enterprise system. First you have to consider all aspects of an organization from the beginning to the end, by doing this you can narrow down the different types of enterprise system that would be best for the organization. Secondly you will have to consider security and upkeep. Enterprise systems do not run themselves, and they do require a certain amount of technical support.
