Finance in the Bible

As I observed many different Bible verses that talked about finances, I came across one in Ecclesiastes 5:10 that really stood out to me. It states, “Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless (Ecclesiastes 5:10, New International Version).” This verse simply means that it is in our human nature to want more than what we have. Unfortunately, our society is consumed with money and wealth. There is nothing wrong with having money, but once it starts consuming your life, it becomes a problem. The saying “money doesn’t buy happiness” is probably one of the most accurate statements that have ever been made. People will start to make money an idol in their lives and this affects their relationship with God. God wants us to enjoy the things of this world, but once we start to put it above him, he will just take it away.

This has become a problem in my own life. My whole life my family has supported me and paid for everything. This past year I got a job and started taking on a whole load of new responsibilities. I no longer rely on my parents for money because I have a job that helps support me every month. Although I am only making car payments, paying for food, and gas, I have been stressing out and putting too much of a focus on money. I work a minimum wage job and sometimes I want to add another job, on top of school, so I can earn more money. I know I have the rest of my life to work and I need to relax and focus on college. I know God is way bigger than my financial struggles, and I need to rely on him for it. If people understood this concept and started to trust God with their finances, they would be more at peace about their finances. I refuse to let money be an idol in my life because I have seen for myself that it does not bring happiness at all. The more you get, the more you want. It is a never-ending cycle and it is a sin to think this way. I now choose to...
