One misunderstanding I had at work was that me and Indra, a coworker, both had a sandwich in the refrigerator in the break room. I had lunch with Eunos in the break room, and he saw that I had my sandwich. Something happened to Indra’s sandwich from the refrigerator, before she went to lunch, and she asked if anyone had eaten it, Eunos noted that I had a sandwich for lunch.
Who was the sender? Me
Who was the receiver? Eunos
What was the message? That I had my sandwich at lunch that got mistaken for Indra’s sandwich.
What channel was used? Face to face
What was the misunderstanding that occurred? That I had eaten Indra’s sandwich at lunch instead of my own.
How could the misunderstanding have been avoided? I could have communicated better with Eunos that it was my sandwich that I was eating instead of Indra’s.
I had an instance at work with some nonverbal communication with a customer. One day a customer came in and was speaking with me about a problem they had with their bank account. They asked me a series of questions, and during our conversation, I let some of my frustration show through nonverbal communication. I rolled my eyes at the customer without even noticing I did so. There are many ways that you can communicate with people and I think that we over look the nonverbal aspect of miscommunication.
Who was the sender? Me
Who was the receiver? Customer
What was the message? That I was frustrated with the customer and rolled my eyes.
What channel was used? Face to face
What was the misunderstanding? I rolled my eyes to the customer without even knowing I did so.
How could the misunderstanding have been avoided? I should have kept calm and listened to what the customer had to say instead of being impatient and sending negative nonverbal messages to the customer.
