Question: Martin Luther is regarded as the main Architect of the

Protestant Reformation.

A) Give a Sketch of his life. B) Examine the abuses that brought about the

Reformation. C) Discuss its Impacts.

INTRODUCTION

The Protestant Reformation developed from the questioning and criticism of the Medieval Catholic Church traditional practices; the superiority of the pope ordinances of salvation; its’ power and wealth. The form of believe derived form set of humanitarians that influence the faith of Lutheranism led by Martin Luther. This faith created what is called the ‘Protestants’ that caused upheaval in Europe and the formation of other beliefs that led to the power of the ‘universal’ church to disintegrate with the building up of smaller sects.

SKETCH OF MARTIN LUTHER LIFE

Martin Luther, the son of a miner was born on the 10th November, 1483 and died on the 18th February, 1564.[1] He was expected to praise the family’s good fortune by becoming a lawyer, but he took an unusual and unsuspected route in his life. Against his father’s will Luther joined the monastery and on his first day at the mass, he was confronted by his father’ quote “son don’t you know that you ought to honor your father?”[2] ,but through his terrible reflecting past, he considered himself a great sinner and see the needs to search for repentance for his deeds that he subjected his life for salvation. Yet however, he did not feel worthy as he engaged in worshiping in accordance to the church’s method, as he was in denial of forgiveness for his sins, Luther refuse to neglect any prayers, if he did he usually shot himself from the world and prayed the necessary prayers and rituals.[3] By studying the bible, Luther eventually found peace, in the words “just shall live by his faith (Rom. 1:17)”[4] thus through careful conception and comprehension he came to realize that one cannot be rescued by the action...
