With the improvements of the information technology, specifically the internet, more and more companies are existing in the online world. The changes in the business market also allows customers to change and become more dependent on online stores and online shopping, rather than going to shopping malls or retail stores, and waiting in long lines. One of the established and considered as the largest and competitive online shopping in the world is Amazon. In this essay we will discuss the competency of being a leading retailer, present areas of competition with other companies such as Google, and then address the uses of Amazon’s database.

Amazon has been considered as one of the largest bookstore and online store in the global market. Amazon’s main website offers millions of DVDs, music, books and videos, electronics, apparel and clothes, cosmetics, drugs and others.  However, just like any company Amazon has highs and lows, but what separates them is there ability to manage the companies and sustain their competitive advantage, which keeps them as one of the leading online retailers (Porter, 1998). The company has also used some strategies to ensure that they will outgrow their competitors like Ebay.  Amazon has also been able to have a sustainable focus on their core business values ensuring that their goals, objectives and mission are achieved.  In addition, the company has been able to sustain good relationship with its market and all other stakeholders as the company focus itself on satisfying the costumers by providing them quality products and services (Porter, 1998).
