FUTURELIFE® High Protein Smart foods have been making headlines and is becoming a well known source of protein for sportsman. We decided to do an in depth analysis of the products to determine whether or not this product is as good as they say it is.

The active compound in FUTURELIFE® products is Soya Isoflavones. Isoflavones are a class of phytoestrogens—plant-derived compounds with estrogenic activity (Find a Vitamin or Supplement, 2009). Soy is considered a very good food product as it is used to prevent high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diseases of the heart and blood vessels. It is also used for type 2 diabetes, asthma, lung cancer, endometrial cancer, prostate cancer, and thyroid cancer, as well as preventing weak bones (osteoporosis), and slowing the progression of kidney disease.

Soy protein is a protein that is isolated from soybean. It is made from soybean meal that has been dehulled and defatted. Dehulled and defatted soybeans are processed into three kinds of high protein commercial products: soy flour, concentrates, and isolates. Soy protein is a complete source of protein containing adequate quantities of all 10 essential amino acids which are necessary for the building and maintenance of human body tissues (Erdman & Fordyce, 1989).

Amino acids can be placed in the category of either essential or non-essential. The name is self explanatory. Essential amino acids are those that are "essential" in the diet. In other words essential Amino acid are those amino acids that the body needs, whose carbon skeleton cannot be synthesized de novo by the body and must be obtained from a persons’ diet.
