CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

1.1 INTRODUCTION

A message frequently found in corporate mission statements and annual reports is that people are a firm’s most valuable resource. Likewise, MELORITA’S mission is to “Making Dreams Come True” to help make dream come true for all the candidates who are seeking for better standard of living for themselves and their family by providing them the BEST employment opportunities that BEST meets their need in the BEST location all over the world. The Mission in MELORITA has been one of a calling and vocation to make a major significant difference in the lives of people who have been served by MELORITA over the years. MELORITA’S Vision is “NO BOUNDARIES” where a MELORITA candidate from anywhere in the world is matched to vacancies in any part of the world.

1.2 THE OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

The objectives of this study are as following:

a. To identify briefly on how and why human resource practices influence human resource characteristics and in turn how these characteristics affect organizational performance;

b. To discuss how SHRM being practiced in Melorita by the Managers/Head of Department with HR management’s direction.

1.3 ComPANY BACKGROUND

In 1977, Melorita Consultants commenced its operations with a key focus as a management consultancy for the ASEAN region. In 80’S Foray into the healthcare industry, consulting on a number of healthcare projects. In 90’s Melorita expand its healthcare recruitment business to the Middle East and hence, became the largest healthcare recruiter in Malaysia. And TODAY, it is fully entrenched in the healthcare industry by providing support services in the areas of recruitment, training and healthcare services with operations throughout Malaysia and the ASEAN region.
