Analysis: Atticus’s talk talk with Scout shows that he is determined to fulfill his goal in the Tom Robinson case. This shows a lot of integrity in Atticus in being a lawyer, friend, and a father towards his children.

Words: “if you learn a single trick, Scout, you’ll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view...until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” (Page 30)

Analysis: Atticus’s talk to Scout about empathy shows that he wants her to be more thoughtful of others and to respect them. This shows also Atticus’s caring side, he wants to show Scout that even though Miss Caroline was a little harsh, Scout doesn’t know what caused her to be down, so she should be more empathetic towards Miss Caroline and others.

Words: “I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what.” (Page 112)

Analysis: This quote from Atticus shows he has been through a lot of courage situations. This also demonstrates that he is trying to be a good father by telling Jem about Mrs. Dubose and how she is courageous.
