1. The concept of homeostasis is related to aging and disease because aging and age-related diseases occur when the homeostasis within cells is interrupted over time. Parkinson’s disease results from mitochondria homeostasis being interrupted and therefore neurons high energy demands cannot be met within cells. Diabetes occurs when the mechanism for insulin becomes imbalanced because cells have become resistant to insulin or insulin is deficient.

2. Drinking water when you are dehydrated and thirsty is a part of a negative feedback control system. Because your body recognizes that its water supply is depleting, due to being in the sun all day or strenuous exercise, your brain tells you to drink water.

3. You would struggle to understand physiology without anatomy because you would not be aware of where each body part connected, and how the parts related to one another. You would not be able to truly understand how the body works.

4. Within the body there are spaces that contain important organs, there are two major cavities; the dorsal and the ventral cavity. The dorsal cavity is split into the cranial cavity which holds the brain and the vertebral canal that contains the vertebrae. The ventral cavity can be split into the Thoracic and Abdominopelvic cavities that are separated by the diaphragm. The thoracic cavity is split into three parts: Mediastinum, Pleural cavity, Pericardial cavity. The abdominopelvic cavity is split into the abdominal cavity and the pelvic cavity.

5. A dental hygienist examines patients for signs of oral diseases and provides preventative dental care. Without understanding anatomy and physiology a dentist would not be able to recognize signs of oral disease or irregularities.
