The Foundation that led to the Cold War

Imagine a bomb that could vaporize an island, blow a huge hole in the ocean floor, and have enough power to destroy half of Manhattan. According to the History Channel the United States not only had that bomb they were the first to test what is now known as the Hydrogen bomb or H-Bomb for short. The United States were involved in a Cold war with the Soviet Union between the years of 1945 to about 1991. During this time period both the United States and the Soviet Union built nuclear bombs in order to prevent one another from launching them. In 1945 the “big three” United States, Great Britain, and Russia met to have the famous Yalta conference where they created the United Nations. At this Yalta Conference they decided what the boundaries of post war Poland should be and they agreed that Poland’s government should be democratically elected. I will discuss some of the causes that led up to the cold war of 1947-1991.

There were many causes that led up to the cold war PBS.org has some causes listed as Stalin’s mistrust of Churchill and Roosevelt, especially their refusal to open a second front in France until 1944, The Soviet loss of life compared to losses suffered by Great Britain and the United States, The desire for a buffer between the Soviet Union and western Europe, The issue surrounding Poland and Eastern Europe after the war, The US development of the atomic bomb, The American Marshall Plan. There is probably more way more than what are on this list, but I am only going to talk about a few of them. Some of the causes date back to when World War Two was happening; this is particularly true because around this time Stalin grew a mistrust of Winston Churchill who was the prime minister of the United Kingdom, and Franklin Roosevelt who was the president of the United States.
