The current organization structure & the 5-Star system employed for PVs is currently ineffective and unable to support the strategy of the Portman Hotel Company. PVs are dissatisfied.

Political:

1. San Francisco hotels usually have unions to represent its employees and ensure their welfare. Currently Portman Hotel is against having an employee union though some of the employees are insisting on having one.

Social:

1. Typical American Luxury hotel service is very different from the service that Asian Luxury hotels provide

2. American travellers don’t expect Asian luxury treatment and are not able to understand the PV system in Portman Hotel Company

3. Americans staying in Luxury hotels are expected to give huge tips to the hotel employees

4. Americans are not comfortable when the hotels suggest the tips that they can provide to the employees

5. Job description of employees in other luxury hotels of America is specific and narrow in nature. Whereas the job description of a PV is broad and not specific.

Economical:

1. Luxury hotel Industry in America is growing with many new luxury hotels entering the market

2. Labour costs in America are higher than that of Asia which limits the number of employees hired for serving each guest
