INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES (ICTs) IMPLEMENTATION CHALLENGES AND ISSUES: A CASE STUDY OF MALAYSIAN SECONDRY SCHOOLS

1. Introduction

Rapid growth in ICT infrastructures development has changed the world’s perception about learning. More than a decades ICT took part in changing conventional learning methods to new technology education. Indeed, its a good start for generation Y. As ICT embarked in education field, more and more people are aware of knowledge mangament.

1. Education Technology in Malaysia

We live in a digital world, where our day to day lives are highly dependent on technologies. At the rate technology is currently expanding, we sometimes find it hard to keep up with it. Children need to be exposed to the marvels of technology, as they are the future Steve Jobs and Bill Gates.

There are some parties that disagree with the idea of integrating technology into the curriculum as it can impact a student’s learning. However, we must realize that there is no escape from it in our everyday life. Rather than letting our children learn technology from the wrong sources, we might as well teach it to them and turn the classroom into a dynamic learning centre. “As the saying goes, “if you can’t beat them, join them”.

This does not mean that technology is a substitute for a teacher, as technology itself cannot teach. Incorporating technology into the curriculum would still require a teacher at the forefront, to decide when, where and how best to maximise the learning process. Technology education is in fact a bonus for our children, as it readily available and always accessible. This way, children are able to learn and develop anytime, anywhere. It also allows them to be more independent and creative.
