Career Management Midterm

Question One

I selected the position of an HR manager in the Halton District School Board because I can see myself as a great fit into the organization. This is because I would genuinely love to work for an organization that falls within the public sector and manages various schools across the city. Moreover, after I finish my degree at York University I want to seek an internship in any school board because I would like to gain exposure in this distinct industry. I made this decision because I was always confused between a career as a teacher or as an human resources professional. Even though I love both fields since they allow you to be creative, be it if you’re a training and development individual in human resources or if you’re a passionate school teacher trying to figure out ways to engage students. I choose to go towards the human resources field because it will allow me to work in countless industries and I can also specialize in training and development or simply generalize and get the companies goals and the job duties of the employee’s across. In other words I can have the best of “both worlds”. Thus, I decided that I would like to use my education from York University and explore a career as a human resources generalist and then eventually work my way to up to being a human resources manager.

As a result, I will be in a role that allows me to exercise autonomy where I can take the responsibility to make strategic decisions for the department. Moreover, this particular anchor will keep me motivated because I will have the authority to plan and implement ideas that can be fruitful for the organization. Moreover, autonomy is intangible and it becomes apparent in managerial roles where the whole entire organization depends on the departmental manager to lead and engage the employees within and keep the business strategies aligned with the human capital.
