Lab #2, Terminating Category 5e and Category 6 UTP Cable
Lab Report
Each answer is worth seven points.
Use a red colored font for you answers.
Place the answers below the questions.
1. In the videos you just watched where is the color code to use for the jack shown? The color codes were either on the top between the pins labled or labeled on the outside sides of the pins.
2. For the wires how many possible termination color code methods are there? I believe there are 2 possible termination color code methods, T568A and T568B.
3. How many wires are there in a UTP cable? There are 8 wires because there are 2 wires and 4 pairs.
4. What colors are used on these wires? The colors used on the wires are my favorite color orange then green, brown, blue, orange-white, green-white, brown-white and blue-white.
5. The punch down tool used to insert the wires into a jack such as this does what two things to each wire? The punch down tool first seats the wire then with further pushing trims the wire.
6. What is the most critical part of the termination procedure to ensure low crosstalk on the connection? The most critical part is to make sure the twists are each in the four pairs.
7. How is the outer insulation covering each wire cut through during the termination procedure? Using the punch down tool first by pushing it down once to get the wire into place (seating the wire) and then pushing it down even further which then cuts the wire (trimming the wire).
8. Which termination color code method is used in this example? The T568B Wiring Scheme was used in this example.
9. In which video is the wire separation tower shown?
The wire separation tower is shown in the 2nd video Terminating CAT-6 UTP Cable Video.
10. Where are the pin numbers shown on the jack with the wire separation towers? The Pin Numbers and color codes were on the top between the pins labled.
