Explain the difference between quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing. Are researchers required to provide in-text citations and a References page entry for all three? Why or why not?

In writing, there is a difference between quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing. Quoting is you actually take the writer’s exact words and put them into your work. The writer’s words must be in direct quotes. With direct quotes and in-text citation and a reference page entry is required. Paraphrasing means putting an excerpt from someone else’s work into your own words. An in-text citation and reference page entry is required for paraphrasing as well. Summarizing means putting only the main ideas of someone else’s work into your own words. An in-text citation and a reference page entry is used for this as well. By adding the in-text citation and reference page entry, it reduces the chances of plagiarism

Three ways to avoid plagiarism are to use your own words whenever possible, ask for help when you don’t know how and always use citation whenever quoting, paraphrasing, or summarizing.

What makes citing and referencing electronic sources difficult? What can one do to ensure one has done so correctly?

The Internet and other electronic sources are widely used sources for research and it is constantly changing; thus making it hard to document and cite these sources. In order to make sure you are doing it correctly, you should consult with the style manual in which you are writing to make sure that it is properly cited and referenced.

I have learned a substantial lot about the library. I can now retrieve documents that I want to retrieve, search for documents and use the filters to narrow the search. I also know how to save the full text document to my computer for easy referencing and I can use the citation page to make sure that I am using the proper citation for each source....
