Art Aesthetics in Different Eras

What is aesthetics in art? It has been described “as a branch of philosophy, and aesthetics has traditionally dealt with beauty and taste in relation to judgment and evaluation. In relation to art, aesthetics has a long history of debate—whether or not, for example, beauty and meaning are inherent in the work of art itself or located, instead, in the historical context of an art object. The purpose of art also has long been debated.” Art through the ages has gone through many changes.Through the time people, views of aesthetics have change but in the Middle ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Neoclassical and Romanticism periods art style were some similarity but overall each art period had some differences.

The crucifixion by Giovanni di Francesco Toscani done in 1491 is a great example of art in the middle ages. The big stand out point of art in the middle age was the focus on creating symbols of Christian values, beliefs and ideas they were not concerned with realism. Middle age statue often was flat and shallow. The Bodies in the art or sculpture could have been out of proportion but main focus was not on beauty.

Renaissance aesthetically was more about beauty. A stand out from that time was the Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa known as the world`s most famous painting has fascinated human beings for decades. The painting is believed to be of a Florentine`s merchants wife; however, the painting was never delivered. The painting has inspired many artists and her smile has been the discussions at many art conventions. The Mona Lisa was painted in Italy on an oil pane between 1503-1506. The renaissance was focused more on realism, one of the key focuses in most the art was made sure they look like they in real life. They used linear perspective in the paintings, and it does not have as much focus on religion like in the middle...
