Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats are the four ingredients that make a fortune 500 company. Starbucks has operations in 60 countries and its corporation is a roaster, marketer and retailer of coffee. Starbucks has managed to stay first class in roasting and selling its own coffee. One of the advantages that Starbucks has over its competitors is that they make and sell their own coffee. Adding in breakfast sandwiches, cakes, cupcakes and donuts on a stick is an added bonus to morning rush. Anyone can grab their frappe and a muffin to go. Starbucks also sell K-cups for the avid 1 cup coffee drinker and a host of drinks and fresh food items. According to http://www.ers.usda.gov/data-products/us-food-imports.aspx coffee is one of the top fourteen items imported into the US.

SWOT, the W stands for weakness. Starbucks product pricing could be a disadvantage for the company. According to an article published in the Bloomberg Business week which was published in June 25, 2013 by Vanessa Wong. The headlines read “Starbucks Is Raising Its Prices Today. But By How Much?” http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2013-06-25/starbucks-is-raising-its-prices-today-dot-but-by-how-much. All of the companies in the US according to the article will see this increase this may or may not be a good thing. Especially with the economy trying to crawl its way back, the customers it has may think it best to go to one of its competitors than pay the extra monies for their usual drink. Only time will tell.
