The direction of health care in America has made dramatic changes in the last couple of years. Prior to the Healthcare Reform bill, tens of thousands of Americans were without insurance. Since the bill has gone into effect, many of those Americans have been able to obtain health insurance coverage. The Healthcare Reform bill has come with much controversy. There are many people who do not believe that this bill was a good decision, and that it will ultimately hurt the American citizens. There have been advancements made in the medical field recently. One of the biggest advancements has been in how medical records are being kept and stored.

“The Affordable Care Act, passed by Congress and signed into law by the President in March 2010, gives the patient better health security by putting in place comprehensive health insurance reforms that hold insurance companies accountable, lower health care costs, guarantee more choice, and enhance the quality of care for all Americans” (Health Reform in Action, 2010). This act has gradually gone into effect over the last two years, and will continue to be implemented in pieces until the year 2014 (Health Reform in Action, 2010). Many Americans have already begun to see a positive effect, not only to employees but also to their employers. According to The White House Blog (2010), the new Affordable Care Act will, “provide tremendous benefits for employers, including tax credits for small business and savings for employers” (Cutter, 2010). The Affordable Care Act will benefit many companies. It will allow for more employees to be covered by insurance, all while keeping costs reasonable for the employers. This could be a deciding factor for many companies in whether they are able to continue to do business. With healthcare costs so out of control over the past several years, many companies have either gone out of business, or had to stop offering insurance to their employees.
