9. The U. S., and indeed much of the rest of the world, has been described as a “knowledge society.” How does this affect productivity measurement and the comparison of productivity between the U. S. and other countries?

Production becomes much more difficult to weigh when the chore is more intellectual. When referring to a, “knowledge society” it is implied that the said society is more intellectual and harder to weigh. Because many countries-including the United States are becoming more and more knowledgeable, the productivity rate is again more difficult to weigh. Areas like pharmaceuticals are hard to gauge for productivity because it may take several years to develop one product and it is hard to keep track of the man hours associated with the product over time.
