Abortion essay: Mock exams.

Abortion is a topic that has caused several controversies throughout history. The topic of abortion is often seen as a taboo whilst others are raising awareness on the topic. Several religions possess ideas and beliefs surrounding abortion one being the approach of Christians which is to allow abortions but only in extreme circumstances such as the mother has been raped. Contrasting with this Catholics think that regardless of everything it is the mother's duty to birth this child regardless of circumstances and situations.

Aquinas was a philosopher that openly didn't agree with abortion and like the Catholic church didn't think of circumstances. He believed it was the mother's duty to birth this child due to his belief in 'natural law'. Natural law is the philosophers findings surrounding abortion broken down into the belief that abortion is wrong as God obviously intended for the mother to become impregnated as God has given everything a course to follow; for example God has given a sperm cell a course to follow which is to impregnate a woman, if the woman is impregnanted it is God that has made this choice through natural law. If an egg becomes fertilised this is God's doing and should not to be interfered with through abortion but considered a sign that God cares. Several people may argue against the ideas of Aquinas asking 'Why would God impregnate somebody that was unable to provide a suitable life for this child or a rape victim?' If God has impregnated this unable potential mother God must consequently be evil in some form.

Catholicism is a religion in which the believers and teachers go off the basic idea that from conception this foetus is already a human, has human rights and that this human already has a soul that God created from then onwards. Souls are often used as a decider within several religions especially Catholicism, but is the term 'soul' not specific enough? What is a soul? Does everyone have a soul?
